This course is designed for AVDC residents, AVDC diplomates, other specialists and residents, and general practitioners. The course is to understand various advanced imaging modalities pertaining to the practice of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery.
A brief discussion of the physics of conventional computed tomography (CT), cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be presented. Clinical anatomy and pathology will be presented with the various imaging modalities to understand interpretation of dental, oral, and maxillofacial pathology. The 4-hour CBCT section will include clinical cases (canine and feline tooth resorption, periodontal disease, endodontic disease, trauma, temporomandibular pathology, odontogenic cysts, and oral cancer comparison and corresponding digital intraoral radiographs and clinical photographs to enhance learning between what is visualized with CBCT compared to digital intraoral radiology. Introduction of an emerging technology, tomosynthesis, will be presented as another imaging modality for dental and maxillofacial pathology. An interactive thoracic radiology section is presented for learning assessment of the thoracic cavity as part of patient anesthetic preparation and challenges. The course will enhance dental and maxillofacial pathology for AVDC® residents and diplomates as well as the general practitioner adding advanced imaging modalities to their practices. This 13 CE Hour RACE approved course and AVDC® pre-approval to satisfy 12 hours for AVDC residents for specialist in training hours in Radiology/Imaging including 8 hours of dental/oral/maxillo-facial imaging techniques.
